In the first week of June 2014, irishtradmusic’s first concert series took place; from June 4th to June 7th, Matt Cranitch (fiddle) and Jackie Daly (accordeon) performed in several beautiful locations throughout the Netherlands and Belgium. In this period, they performed at Kasteel Dever in Lisse, Kasteel Hackfort in Vorden, the NPB church in Oud-Beijerland and ViaVia Reiscafe in Mechelen. The intimate character of these venues provided the perfect setting for these purely acoustic concerts.
The two musicians got to play for a varied and enthusiastic crowd; for some of the people in the audience, this was their first introduction to Irish traditional music, while others were real fans of the duo! Some members in the audience recalled that they had had workshops with Jackie Daly over 15 years ago! For these audience members, this concert series was a perfect moment to meet their heroes again!
During several nights, there were also some ‘surprise’ acts in store for the audience. Since Irish traditional music is mostly dance-music, the Irish stepdancer Caroline Vermeulen (of Irish dance group Kyra) gave a dance demonstration. She performed, in the so-called ‘hard-shoes’, the traditional setdance ‘The Blackbird’ on live music played by Matt and Jackie. You can watch her performance here!
In Oud-Beijerland the audience witnessed a blazing set of reels when Irish accordeon player David Munnelly joined the stage!
The concert series came to an end in Mechelen, followed by a session in the bar at ViaVia reiscafe! Irish music could be heard to well past midnight!
We thank all people visiting the concerts as well as all who helped in making this event a great succes!
